Our Story
JOHNNY
My personal testimony started with my parents. My father grew up in a Spanish Baptist church on Long Island. When he was 17, he joined the military. While serving in the Marines, he got away from the Lord. My mother was raised in a staunch catholic home in a small town in Iowa. But as she got older, she quit practicing Catholicism on a regular basis. My parents met and were married, and my sister and I were born in South Florida. Through God’s providential hand, my family moved to Iowa to be closer to my mother’s family. While there, my sister and I began to ask about God and church. My mother gave my father the choice to either find us a church to attend or she would take us to the catholic church. My father found a Baptist church down the road from where we lived. We visited there on Easter Sunday and on Tuesday the pastor came to visit and led my mother to the Lord. My father got right with the Lord and my family has faithfully served in the church. I was privileged to grow up in a Christian home, but also see parents who desired to change and conform to the image of Christ as they grow in their faith. My childhood pastor, Ken Koske, and his wife and family have meant everything to me and are a huge reason of why I am who I am today. It was through their love and care that I prayed and asked the Lord into my heart when I was a twelve-year-old boy. I realized that although I knew much of salvation in my head, there was never a time I truly believed in my heart and put my faith in Christ. After I became a Christian, the Lord continued to grow me and lead me to The Crown College to study youth ministry. I am so thankful for the Lord’s guiding in my life.
Our Story
ALANA
I was born and raised in a Christian home, going to church as much as I could. I was told by my parents that I was saved at the age of seven but did not remember. While going into the teen department, I was asked a few times to give my testimony and I would say no because I did not truly have one. This made me question and doubt, but I would tell myself that I would talk to someone about it tomorrow. While telling myself this every day, I would pray quick meaningless prayers asking the Lord to save me if I wasn’t saved. The summer came and I decided to go the very last week. The first night of camp, the preacher was preaching and the one thing he said that really stuck out was, “Tomorrow is never going to come”. The rest of the message I was frozen to my seat and knew that I needed to take care of my salvation. After the message, I got up and went to the back and got my counselor. I sat there, prayed and asked Jesus to come into my heart and save me. One year later, I surrendered my life to the Lord. While I was a senior in high school, I took a trip to the United Kingdom where the Lord first burdened my heart for the English people. I knew that I had surrendered to the ministry, and I knew that a great place for me to go to learn ministry was right where I grew up, at The Crown College. I am very grateful for the opportunity to attend Crown and for all that the Lord taught me.
